Chetro Ketl is one of the largest pueblos in the canyon. Located about a half-mile from the central structure of Pueblo Bonito, it housed a population of several hundred people.

One of the interesting elements of Chetro Ketl is the large kiva in the plaza of the pueblo. Kivas were the central religious structure in the Anasazi culture... a kiva consists of a circular pit covered by a wooden roof, with a single opening in the center of the roof allowing access to the interior. Though not as large as the Great Kiva complex a mile or so away across the canyon, this Kiva is one of the largest in the southwest.
